Anyone can learn how to roll a joint, blunt, or cone. Just like blogging: with a little practice and the right tools, you’ll go a long way. In this article, we explain everything step-by-step. Grab your grinder, because we’re ready to roll.
Rolling a classic joint is a skill every cannabis enthusiast wants to master sooner or later.
Grind your herb – Use a grinder for an even consistency.
Fold your filter tip – Make a W-fold or use a pre-rolled tip.
Hold the rolling paper with the gummed edge facing up and towards you.
Distribute the herb evenly across the paper.
Press down lightly so nothing falls out.
Place the tip on the left side.
Start rolling from the tip side and work your way to the right.
Lick the gummed edge and seal the joint.
Pack the contents down and twist the end shut.
Fold the bottom of the rolling paper into a ‘boat’.
Place a pre-rolled tip in the boat.
Fill with herb – don’t overstuff it.
Compress the herb without pushing too hard.
Roll the paper over the tip, holding it in place with your thumb.
Smooth it out and lick the gummed edge.
Pack the herb with a poker if necessary and push the tip up if there are gaps.
A blunt provides a heavy-duty smoking session and uses a tobacco wrap instead of rolling paper.
Check the wrap – It shouldn't be too dry! It should feel somewhat ‘spongy’.
Remove the tobacco from the wrap.
Split the wrap with a wet finger or a small blade.
Coarse grind: 2–4 turns in the grinder is enough. Don't turn it into powder!
Hold the wrap firmly and fill with herb.
Shape the herb into a cylinder using your fingers.
Tuck & roll: lick, tuck the bottom over the herb, and fold the top over. Work in stages.
Sang-technique (alternative): dampen the inside, lay the wrap on a table, and roll it across the surface.
Don't feel like rolling yourself? Then pre-rolled cones are the easiest option.
Pre-rolled cones (such as RAW)
Finely ground herb
Grind your herb evenly.
Start at the bottom with a small amount and pack it down well.
Fill the rest loosely to the top.
Twist the top for a secure seal.
Tip: There is also talk about the "Hoover Method" for RAW cones – a faster way of filling – but we’ll cover that in a separate blog post.
A joint uses rolling paper and a filter tip. A blunt uses a tobacco wrap without a filter.
Start with pre-rolled cones. No rolling required, just filling.
Pack the herb evenly and make sure the tip is nice and tight.
