To take beautiful pictures you really do not have to travel abroad. The Netherlands has some many wonderful places to offer. With these 6 photogenic places you can just stay close to home while having that holiday feeling.

Kinderdijk, Zuid-Holland

The Netherlands is the country of cheese, tulips and mills. If you want to photograph mills, just go to Kinderdijk. Photographing a single mill can already result in incredibly nice pictures, but several mills together make a beautiful photo. In Kinderdijk, a small village in the province Zuid-Holland, there are no less than 19 mills. You may want to come early in the morning during sunrise or in the evening during sunset. The sun sets in combination with the mills and the water provide a very attractive picture.

Posbank, Gelderland

The Posbank is a beautiful nature reserve in the province of Gelderland. It is part of the Veluwezoom National Park and is near a town called Rheden. The area is ideal for nature photography. Thanks to the rolling landscape you can make beautiful pictures. This area would be great to photograph at sunrise but unfortunately that is forbidden. You may not enter the area before sunrise to avoid disturbing the wildlife. Tip: come around late August and September because in these months the heather will bloom and the Posbank is all purple.

Reitdiephaven, Groningen

You will probably think you ended up in Willemstad (Curacao) or in colorful Cuba, but of course you’re not: you have arrived in Groningen! The Reitdiephaven (Reitdiep port) is on the outskirts of the city Stad and is an idyllic and picturesque harbor. It is characterized by the colored houses on the water. Due to the colorful facades, you can make beautiful pictures here during the daytime as well as in the evening.

Scheveningse Pier, Zuid-Holland

By daylight, the Pier in Scheveningen is not very special. It will give you a nice picture, but it does not give you that "wow feeling". But when the night falls and the lights are turned on on the pier, you need to quickly grab your camera. The colored lights in the dark provide an attractive picture. Do not forget to bring your tripod so you can work with long shutter speeds.

Zeeland bridge, Zeeland

Perhaps you'll drive over the Zeeland bridge in the province of Zeeland. This 5 kilometer long bridge connects Noord-Beveland with Schouwen-Duiveland. During sunrise and sunset, this bridge is gorgeous and easy to enjoy. Use a gray filter to shoot with long shutter speeds. You will find a special effect in the water on your pictures.

The old city centre of any old city, The Netherlands

Are the previous areas a bit too far from the place you are staying? No worries! There is a big change you live or stay near a city with a beautiful old city center. Old city centers are beautiful backgrounds for pictures. What about the historical center and the canals of Delft, Leiden, Amsterdam, Kampen or Dordrecht? They are perfect decors to shoot beautiful pictures. Try to photograph the reflection of a series of canal houses in the water.
