The Christmas-themed window displays in London
There is not a city that radiates Christmas as much as London. On November 7th, 750.000 Christmas lights will be lit in Oxford Street. And if you have been to London before, you know that this is will not the only place by far. The lights in Carnaby are lit on November 9th, the ones in the Enchanted Woodland on November 10th, Covent Garden on November 14th and Regent Street on November 16th. The perfect time to go see the Christmas lights are the last weeks of November and the first weeks of December. Besides, Harrods and all other major department stores guarantee a true Christmas spectacle. Not only the window displays are beautifully decorated; also the Christmas departments are worth a visit. Cannot manage to take days off before the holidays? The lights will be burning until January 5th, 2018.

The Christmas market in Cologne actually consist of six different markets, all within walking distance. The Christmas Avenue is unique: this is one of the few gay Christmas markets in the whole world. Cologne is a nice city anyways, but it breathes ambience around Christmas time. Make sure to climb the Dom and to visit the port. You can combine a great festive ambience with delicious Christmas dishes from the end of November until just before Christmas.
Christmas Market Oberhausen
Oberhausen has two important Christmas markets: the Weihnachtswald located in the city center and the one in CentrO. The Weihnachtswald Christmas Market is a true Christmas forest with 81 spruces that reach up to 12 meters high, 150 spruces up to five meters and then there are thirty cabins and of course the indispensable carousel. You can stay inside and enjoy the Christmas atmosphere in CentrO, the largest shopping center in Europe. All Christmas markets are opened from November 27th to December 23rd. The market in CentrO already starts on November 16th.
Do you have the time and are you in the mood to travel a little further? Then, of course, you should visit Santa's home: Rovaniemi in Finnish Lapland. Here you can visit the Santa Claus Village, do a dog sledge tour, Northern light tour and a safari on a snowmobile. The pristine nature and snow are already fantastic for the children. It takes a while before you reach this destination with a flight of minimum five hours including a layover in Helsinki but then you are assured of an awesome trip.
