Do you love to cycle in the sun? With it’s many nature reserves and special bike lanes the Netherlands is a perfect country for cycling enthusiasts. Are you a bit bored with the same route you are riding every day? These are the best cycling routes through the Netherlands.

Nationaal Park De Hoge Veluwe (Gelderland)

The Hoge Veluwe national park is a great area for nature lovers. It’s no surprise there are always a lot of people hiking and cycling. At the Veluwe forests alternate with heathlands and dusty landscapes. If you come early in the morning or at dusk, you also have the chance to spot wild boar and ravens. The park has a surface of 55 square kilometers and has designated cycling routes. They are easy recognisable because of the colored sticks. You can use the free white bikes to cruise the park, but for the park itself you have to pay an entrance fee. A great route is to bike from Hoenderloo via Schaarsbergen to Otterlo.

Discover Schiermonnikoog by bike (Waddeneilanden)

Make your bike ride a true getaway and go on a discovery trip of the island Schiermonnikoog. The cycle route 'Ontdek natuurlijk Schiermonnikoog' (discover the nature of Schiermonnikoog) is about 19 kilometers long and brings you along the most beautiful places of the island. If you follow this route you will cycle along the salt marshes, the thick forest, the beautiful sand dunes and the Westerplas. In between you will find bunkers and old island houses and afterwards you can enjoy one of the many terraces the island has to offer.

Heideroute (Brabant)

The Heideroute (heather route) at Brabants is approximately 48 kilometers long. You will come across various forests and through the villages of Heeze, Mierlo and Geldrop. In between you can rest on one of the many terraces in the small and cozy villages. The Strabrechtse heath is alsi a wonderful place to make a stopover. Especially when the heath is bloomed (around September) it is really enjoyable here.

A bike ride at Rottemeren (Zuid-Holland)

Even at the busy Randstad you can enjoy greenery. The Rottemeren is a beautiful and versatile recreation area. With this bike ride of about 32 kilometers you cycle along the entire Rottemeren area. Along the way you will find both forest and flat polders with beautiful views. There is also a shorter route available for people in a wheelchair or scooter.

Cycling route Tulip Land (Noord-Holland)

The Bollenstreek (flower bulb region) is known as a popular cycling area. With the Tulip Land cycle route you drive past the bulb fields of Lisse, Voorhout, Sassenheim, Noordwijkerhout, Ruigenhoek, De Zilk and Hillegom. A lovely colorful route when you arrive in mid-April and May.

The route between Vledder en Dwingeloo (Drenthe)

The cycling route between Vledder and Dwingeloo in the province of Drenthe is about 40 kilometers long. The scented route is interchanged by meadows, fields and hamlets. Especially on hot days the woods have that amazing pine needle aroma. Along this route you will find the farms Fruit of Life and Zeldenrust, where you can pick blueberries during the season. Loads of fun to do with the kids and because of the shorter routes of 23 and 29 kilometers, they can join you. This is very fun to do with children, and thanks to a shortened 29 or 23 kilometer route, they can only enjoy themselves.
