What to do with Easter?

Still nothing to do for Easter? Hunting for Easter eggs, making an Easter cake or watching race cars: these are the best Easter getaways in the Netherlands

Searching Easter eggs, having a delicious Easter brunch or going into nature with the family: do you already know what to do during Easter? We have listed the best Easter activities for you.

This year’s Easter is on Sunday 16 and Monday 17 april. It does not matter if you celebrate Easter or not, an extra day off is always a good thing. This is the ultimate moment to undertake something nice, with or without the kids. There are plenty of things to do since numerous of fun Easter activities are organised throughout the Netherlands.

Easter festivals

Not in the mood to go on an Easter egg hunt or to have brunch with the family? Visit one of the Easter festivals in the Netherlands. Trade in the sweet Easter breakfast with a sausage sandwich, beer and sleeping in a tent. The festival season is officially opened with the three-day music festival “Paaspop in Schijndel”. There are hundreds of more acts besides excellent artists such as Anouk, Doe Maar and DI-RECT. In short, there is plenty to see and to do on Paaspop. Did you know that you can even play a game of bowling? Another festival during the Easter weekend is DGTL in Amsterdam. This in- and outdoor festival has a great line-up consisting of DJs and live acts such as Seth Troxler, Gui Boratto & Elekfantz, Kink, Worakls and Luuk van Dijk.

Easter bonfires

The Easter bonfires in the East of the Netherlands attract many visitors yearly. Each year several towns compete to have the biggest Easter fire in the world. We recommend to visit Espelo because the world record goes to this community of Holten for many years already. The presence of music, coffee, tea, beer and chips create a nice festive atmosphere.

Watching lambs and searching Easter eggs

What is Easter without traditional activities or spotting newborn lambs. Therefore several hike trials are set out throughout the entire Netherlands so you can spot the newborn lambs. You can participate in hikes, varying from 5 to 40 kilometres, on the island of Texel to spot newborn lambs on second Easter day. Do you prefer to search for Easter eggs? You can do so in Plaswijckpark, Het Land van Jan Klaassen and in Park de Hoge Veluwe.

Baking with the kids

Are you and the family staying inside during Easter? Spend quality time together in the kitchen. Make for example a big Easter breakfast or a delicious Easter brunch. It is also much fun to bake a cake with an Easter bunny hidden inside. You make this by first baking a chocolate cake and to cut out bunnies with a cutter in the shape of a rabbit afterwards. Place these chocolate bunnies in a row in the cake tin. Pour cake batter (vanilla) on top hereafter. The Easter bunny will become visible once you cut the cake, how cool is that?

Easter races

Do you have a need for speed? Attention car enthusiasts! Circuit Park Zandvoort officially kicks off the racing season and spring during Easter. Drivers from all over the Benelux will be seen on the asphalt. Among others, Supercar Challenge, Porsche Club Racing and Dutch Truck Racing will make their appearance. Who will eb the fastest this year? Thrilling!
