The French Rizla introduced the customized rolling paper for cigarette smokers around 1860. They also invented the booklet in which the paper is traditionally sold. The Dutch Mascot conquered part of the Dutch market when the import of paper was briefly restricted after the Second World War. In France and in Southern and Central Europe, the French brand OCB has a large market share.
Since the 1970s, there are also larger papers in addition to the traditional cigarette format: the king-size paper , sometimes also called king paper, big paper , long paper or long paper . Rizla marketed these with the explanation that they were responding to the demand for king-size cigarettes.
