How to Use a Culture Ampoule

A Culture Ampoule allows you to easily inoculate a substrate with a mushroom culture. Unlike traditional spore prints or spore syringes, a Culture Ampoule already contains an active culture. This means you can immediately begin inoculating a suitable substrate.

Follow the step-by-step instructions below to work with the Culture Ampoule in a clean and controlled way.

What do you need?

  • Culture Ampoule
  • Sterile syringe with needle
  • Clean cloth or alcohol swab
  • Suitable substrate for inoculation

Culture Ampoule Instructions: Step by Step

Step 1: Work cleanly

Wash your hands thoroughly and clean the outside of the Culture Ampoule with a clean, damp cloth. For additional hygiene, we recommend using a sterile alcohol swab to remove potential bacteria.

Step 2: Open the sterile packaging

The syringe is enclosed in sterile packaging. Open it carefully in a clean environment to avoid contamination.

Step 3: Prepare the ampoule

Loosen the cap of the Culture Ampoule slightly, but do not remove it completely. This allows air to enter and prevents vacuum problems when drawing the culture into the syringe.

Step 4: Fill the syringe

Insert the needle of the syringe through the rubber seal of the ampoule and carefully draw the culture liquid into the syringe.

Step 5: Inoculate the substrate

The filled syringe is now ready to use. Inject the culture into the selected substrate. Store the substrate at room temperature so the culture can develop. After some time, mycelium growth may become visible.

Hygiene and tips

  • Work as sterile as possible to avoid contamination.
  • Do not touch the syringe needle.
  • Only open sterile packaging in a clean environment.
  • Follow the instructions of the substrate or growing medium you are using.
