To cultivate successfully with liquid culture, you’ll need a few supplies in addition to the liquid culture kit itself. A sterile working environment is crucial to prevent contamination. Consider the following:

  • Sterile substrate: such as sterilized grains or compost.
  • Sterilized grow bags or jars.
  • Gloves and a face mask.
  • Disinfectant for surfaces and tools (such as sterile alcohol wipes).
  • A clear manual or guide for your chosen cultivation method.

Step-by-step guide: How to use the liquid culture vial

  1. Prepare and disinfect: Wash your hands thoroughly. Next, clean the outside of the vial with a clean, damp cloth. We strongly recommend using a sterile alcohol wipe to kill any bacteria.
  2. Unpack the syringe: The included syringe comes in sterile packaging. Make sure the syringe remains uncontaminated and open the packaging exclusively in a clean environment.
  3. Prevent a vacuum: Slightly loosen the cap of the vial, but do not remove it completely. This allows you to fill the syringe without creating a vacuum inside the vial.
  4. Fill the syringe: Carefully insert the needle through the rubber seal of the vial and draw up the liquid culture to fill the syringe.
  5. Inoculate: The filled syringe is now ready for use! Inject the liquid culture into your chosen sterile substrate. Then, store the substrate at room temperature. Within just a few days, the white mycelium will visibly begin colonizing the substrate.

Making your own liquid culture: the simplest recipe

4 ml honey or corn syrup per 100 ml distilled water
(So for a 500 ml jar, you use 20 ml of liquid sugar).

  1. Mix: Dissolve the honey or corn syrup in the distilled water.
