More and more people are discovering CBD oil. It is a 100% natural, non-psychoactive plant extract from industrial hemp that has gained enormous popularity in recent years.
In our busy, modern lives, we are increasingly looking for a natural balance. Many users choose CBD oil to sleep better, find more inner peace, and as physical support for an active lifestyle.
What is CBD oil?
CBD oil is a natural dietary supplement. It consists of cannabidiol (an active ingredient from hemp) mixed with a carrier oil such as hemp seed oil or MCT oil. It supports the balance in the body without making you high.
CBD is the abbreviation for cannabidiol. This is a natural substance extracted directly from the industrial hemp plant. CBD belongs to the cannabinoids: these are active plant compounds that work together with a special network in your body, the endocannabinoid system (ECS). The great advantage of cannabidiol is that it is not psychoactive. This simply means that it will absolutely not get you high or intoxicated.
How is CBD oil made?
Pure CBD from the hemp plant is naturally a very thick, strong paste. To make it easy to dose and use, manufacturers dilute this paste with a liquid carrier oil. The production of CBD oil begins with the careful cultivation of the hemp plants. Specialists extract the active ingredients from the flowers of the plant. They often use CO₂ extraction for this, which is the safest and purest method because it requires no heating. After that, they mix this pure extract with a base oil, such as hemp seed oil, olive oil, or MCT oil (liquid coconut fat). This mixture creates a liquid oil that is easy to apply in drops and is quickly and efficiently absorbed by the body.
How does CBD oil work?
CBD (cannabidiol) is a natural plant substance (phytocannabinoid) from the industrial hemp plant. It works directly with the endocannabinoid system (ECS) in the body. This is a complex biological network that is naturally involved in various physiological processes.
As soon as you take CBD, the following happens in your body:
- Interaction with receptors: CBD primarily reacts with the CB2 receptors in your body and has a low affinity for the CB1 receptors.
- Preservation of the body's own substances: The product does not directly imitate your own body substances, but prevents the rapid breakdown of your own endocannabinoids.
- Natural support: Through this subtle biological interaction, CBD helps the body carry out its own processes in a natural way.
How do you recognize true quality? (The Certificate of Analysis)
The quality and purity of CBD oil is best checked via an up-to-date Certificate of Analysis (COA). This is an independent test report that shows exactly the amount of cannabinoids, terpenes, and the THC percentage.
Can you safely make CBD oil yourself?
Making CBD oil yourself is a risky process that experts strongly advise against. Safely extracting the active ingredients from the industrial hemp plant requires complex methods and specific laboratory conditions. Because it is almost impossible to regulate or test the exact concentrations and the legally permitted maximum THC content yourself in a home environment, home production brings unnecessary risks and legal problems.
The difference between Full Spectrum, Broad Spectrum, and Isolate
Full Spectrum CBD oil
Full spectrum CBD oil contains the complete and original spectrum of active substances from the hemp plant. This means that the oil retains all natural cannabinoids, terpenes, and small, safe traces of THC (always within legal limits). This combination creates the entourage effect: a natural process in which the various plant compounds reinforce each other's regulating effects in the endocannabinoid system. Many consumers choose the full spectrum variant because of this broad and comprehensive effect.
Broad Spectrum CBD oil (THC-free)
Broad spectrum CBD oil offers a similarly broad profile of plant compounds and terpenes, but is guaranteed to be 100% THC-free. During the production process, specialists specifically filter the THC out of the extract. As a result, you still benefit from the versatile effects of the cannabinoids, but it lacks the entourage effect that occurs in combination with THC. This makes broad spectrum an excellent choice for users who consciously want to avoid any form of THC.
CBD Isolate
CBD isolate is the purest and most concentrated form of cannabidiol available. In the production of an isolate, laboratories use special techniques to isolate exclusively the CBD molecule from the plant. The final product consists of pure CBD crystals and does not contain any other cannabinoids or terpenes.
Which carrier oil suits you: Hemp seed, Grape seed, or MCT?
After extraction, the CBD paste is diluted with a base oil. This carrier oil determines the taste, the speed of absorption, and the extra nutritional value of the product.
- Hemp seed oil: This oil is cold-pressed from hemp seeds and is full of essential nutrients like healthy fats, proteins, vitamins, and linoleic acid. Because it is an unrefined oil, it has a strong, grassy, and slightly bitter taste due to the presence of leaf green (chlorophyll).
- MCT oil (Coconut): MCT is the part of coconut oil that remains liquid at room temperature. It is a very fast energy provider that is especially popular with athletes. MCT oil is characterized by a much softer, neutral taste compared to olive or hemp seed oil.
- Grape seed oil: This cold-pressed oil contains nutrients that contribute to optimal concentration and firming the skin.
How to use and dose CBD oil?
There are 2 ways you can use the oil:
- Under the tongue: Drop the oil directly under your tongue using the pipette and wait at least 30 seconds before swallowing. This allows your mucous membranes to absorb the active ingredients quickly. If applying drops directly is difficult, you can use a teaspoon.
- On the skin: You can also apply the oil topically to your skin or mix it with your favorite lotion. This effectively helps against pimples, redness, and dry or irritated skin.
Which percentage should you choose?
The percentage indicates the concentration of active cannabidiol:
- 5% CBD oil: Ideal for beginners and for light use.
- 10% CBD oil: Balanced for regular and daily use.
- 20% and 30% CBD oil: Powerful formulas for experienced users or for intensive use.
How many drops and when?
There is no fixed, universal dosage that applies to every user. That is why you should always start a new CBD routine with a very low dose, for example, one or two drops in the morning, followed by one or two drops in the evening before going to sleep. This gradual build-up gives your body time to get used to the active plant compounds. Observe closely how your body reacts to this starting dose and gradually increase the number of drops after a few days until you find your optimal, personal balance.
