AA Gent will sell Nicotine Without Tobacco (NZT) in the stadium

Football club AA Gent will start selling tobacco-free nicotine pouches on May 7, 2022. The club also stated that it will comply with laws regarding sales to minors and advertising.

Football club AA Gent will start selling tobacco-free nicotine pouches on May 7, 2022. The club also stated that it will comply with laws regarding sales to minors and advertising.

Under Belgian law, this is completely legal because it doesn't contain tobacco. However, not everyone is enthusiastic about this move by the 2015 Belgian national champions.

According to AA Gent, the club wants to combat passive smoking with this product: "Before, during, and after the match, many people leave the stands to smoke just outside. As a result, many people are passively exposed to smoke. We want to do something about that," says spokesperson Tom Vandenbulcke.

Banned in the Netherlands

In the Netherlands, these products (Nicotine Without Tobacco) are no longer permitted for sale or trade. Research by the RIVM (National Institute for Public Health and the Environment) has shown that nicotine pouches containing 0.035 milligrams or more of nicotine per pouch are harmful foodstuffs. Therefore, these products are prohibited in the Netherlands under the Commodities Act.
