On Monday, November 28, 2022, the law was published in the Government Gazette, making the flavor ban a reality. What does this mean for vapers?

Unfortunately, there's bad news for e-cigarette users. On November 28, 2022, a law was published in the Government Gazette establishing a flavor ban for e-cigarettes. The government decided to ban e-cigarette flavors, meaning manufacturers like Millers Juice and Zensations will no longer be allowed to launch new products that aren't made with the 16 government-approved ingredients.

This has far-reaching consequences for consumers and (online) retailers. All existing tobacco flavors can no longer be produced, and as of today, manufacturers may only produce e-cigarettes with government-approved ingredients. Fortunately, manufacturers still have some time to sell out their inventory. All existing, registered products may continue to be manufactured until July 1, 2023, and (online) retailers may sell out their products until October 1, 2023.

This new law will drastically change the e-cigarette market, and both manufacturers and consumers will have to adapt to the new regulations. Manufacturers will have to revise their production processes to produce only e-cigarettes with approved ingredients, and consumers will have to get used to the taste of the new e-cigarettes. For now, it appears that e-cigarettes will be less appealing to consumers who enjoy the variety of flavors previously available.

It's important to realize that the government has taken these measures to protect consumer health. There's considerable debate about the health effects of e-cigarettes and flavorings, so this new legislation could help reduce the risks. Therefore, it's crucial that manufacturers and consumers comply with the new regulations and that they are educated about the changes in the e-cigarette market.
