In nature, mushrooms grow best in warm and humid conditions with enough fresh air. For the best results:
A heating mat can provide extra warmth, but it can also make the temperature too high. The best results are usually achieved at a room temperature of 20–24 °C. If you do use a heating mat, never place the growkit directly on it. Always use a buffer such as a thick towel.
Most growkits produce mushrooms within 3–4 weeks, but sometimes it takes a little longer. Just as in nature, some mushrooms develop faster than others. Check whether the temperature, humidity, and fresh air conditions are correct before assuming something is wrong.
Green, grey, or black discoloration usually indicates mold contamination. In that case, unfortunately, the growkit can no longer be used.

A red or brown discoloration combined with a sour smell usually indicates bacterial contamination. Unfortunately, in that case the growkit can no longer be used.
This is usually caused by:
A blue discoloration can occur when the mycelium or the mushrooms become damaged or stressed. This can happen, for example, through touching or through fluctuations in humidity (too much or too little water). This is a common occurrence and is normal.
